The Solution
AI for Good is a not-for-profit initiative to make New Zealand the most AI-literate country in the world per capita.
We start with schools:

AI For Good is a non-profit with a network of volunteers that gives free AI literacy training to teachers. We’re not selling products or pushing a platform. Our goal is simple: help teachers feel confident, curious, and safe using AI so your voice is part of the bigger conversation about AI in education.
No. Tool choice comes later. First, teachers need to build foundational AI literacy. Whether you use ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, or a NZ-based school-safe platform, the same principles apply. We want teachers to be informed so decisions aren’t made without you. We can adapt the training to suit your school's preferences or MoE guidance as it emerges.
We’re a registered non-profit. Many of us work in tech day-to-day, but we keep that completely separate. AI For Good is about free, impartial support for teachers with no sales, no hidden agenda. We don’t sell AI tools, consulting, or infrastructure. This is free support for teachers.
You’ll learn:
- What AI can (and can’t) do.
- How to use it safely and ethically.
- Practical classroom examples across different subjects.
- Tips for saving time on planning and admin.
Every workshop can be adapted to the needs of your school.
AI is powerful but imperfect. We’ll cover risks like bias, misinformation, and privacy, and give you strategies to use AI responsibly. You’ll also get links to opt-out guides so you and your students’ data isn’t automatically used to train models.
Lasting change comes from small, regular steps. We encourage schools to appoint an AI “champion,” share successes in staff meetings, and keep experimenting. We’ll also connect you with follow-up resources, free course recommendations (like Gemini for Educators), and a growing teacher network.
Do not put personal identifying information into AI tools. Not your school name, your name, student names, etc. The harsh rule of thumb generally is if you aren't paying for the product, you are the product. Most major platforms allow you to opt out. Chat GPT is the most straight forward for opting out. Here are some guides:

AI For Good was founded by Mignon Green, who has 15 years of experience spanning technology leadership, consulting and recruitment. Our steering group is being finalised to include AI researchers, educators, technical experts, ethicists, tech lawyers and policy writers. We exist because teachers need trustworthy, independent support, not vendor pitches. We are committed to honouring every commitment we make.
